Green in the Dead of Winter

Welcome to the new St. Louis Kids Magazine events blog, where we’ll be highlighting and reviewing all the great events and attractions for kids and families across the St. Louis area.

Looking for a little bit of green in the dead of winter? Pay a visit to the Green Center in U. City. Founded in 1998, the Green Center is headquartered in a 1932 residence in Kaufman Park and provides a natural laboratory and cultural gathering place for the community. Although it may be too cold in February to enjoy the Green Center’s outdoor spaces, which include learning and demonstration gardens, a half-acre prairie, a half-acre Missouri wetland, the 26-acre Ruth Park Woods and an Arboretum in Heman Park, you can still take the kids for a visit to the Geodome Greenhouse for some storytelling fun.

As the sun sets, the greenhouse will be lit up with candles and storytellers will capture the kids’ imaginations. All ages are invited to attend the storytelling events in February at the Green Center on Feb. 21 and 28 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The fun costs only $2 per person, but you must pre-register and space is limited. To attend, contact Kathleen Evans at 314-725-8314 x 105 or [email protected].

The Green Center is located at 8025 Blackberry Ave in University City.
