Your child can read to a CHAMP Therapy Dog during Paws for Books, a new reading program for kids in kindergarten through grade 8, held at Purina Farms.
CHAMP Therapy Dogs will be present for your child to read to in a quiet library-type environment. Purina Farms will provide books of various academic levels, but please feel free to bring your favorite books along.
Young students often demonstrate increased anxiety when reading. However, research shows that reading to dogs can help motivate children by increasing relaxation, reducing blood pressure, lowering stress and offering a safe environment to practice reading.
Paws for Books is held on the first and third Fridays of the month from 4-5 p.m. in February, March, April and May, at the Purina Farms Visitor Center. The program is free and no registration is required.
