Purina Pet Project Day

This event has already passed.

Lend your heart and your hands to bring hope and support to pets and people in crisis at the Purina Farms Pet Project Day. This is a wonderful opportunity for your whole family to volunteer together!

Join Purina Farms for a day of community service featuring 10 different projects that benefit two local greater St. Louis organizations that provide domestic violence victims and their pets with transitional safe housing. Domestic violence is an issue that affects the whole family, and the pet plays an important role in helping survivors heal and recover from the trauma. Unfortunately, the percentage of domestic violence shelters that can take pets is as low as 10%, and this can cause many victims to stay in an abusive situation for fear of leaving the pet behind. Purina is on a mission to help domestic violence shelters across the country on their journey to welcome family pets by raising awareness for the cause and raise funds.

Those who participate in Purina Farms Pet Project Day will help Lydia's House and the APA of Missouri in their mission to make their safe havens places of even greater healing and hope.

Projects include constructing pet beds, compiling care packages, making pet blankets, crafting pet toys, and decorating treat containers. The event is open to anyone age 5 and up. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. No pets are allowed due to the type of work being done that requires full attention.

Other opportunities to get involved in the event include donating wish list supplies, seeing adoptable pets and taking a shareable photo to raise awareness for the cause among friends and family, and participating as a small group to tackle projects as a team.

Plus, sign up for a special kids project where they can adopt a stuffed dog or cat to take home to remember this day of service.

Two sessions are available: 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. Registration is free and required.
